Potatoes By Bettye - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    6 large potatoes, sliced
    1 large onion, chopped
    6 slices American cheese
    1 can cream of mushroom soup (golden is best)
    1 stick butter or margarine
    salt and pepper as desired
Preparation
    In a deep casserole dish, put 1/2 stick of margarine.
    Layer in this order: potatoes, onion and cheese, ending with cheese on top.
    Put salt and pepper between each layer.
