German Red Cabbage - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3 lb. head red cabbage, shredded fine
    3 strips bacon, diced (optional)
    2 chicken bouillon cubes
    1/2 c. brown sugar, firmly packed
    1/2 c. cider vinegar
    1/4 c. margarine
    1 small onion, chopped fine
    dash of clove
    1 Tbsp. salt
    1/4 tsp. pepper
    2 medium apples, chopped
Preparation
    In large kettle, combine all ingredients.
    Bring to boiling over moderate heat, stirring occasionally.
    Reduce heat; simmer, covered and stirring occasionally, 1 to 1 1/4 hours or until most of the liquid is absorbed and cabbage is tender.
    Thicken at end with a bit of flour sprinkled over the cabbage and stirred in.
