Lane Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. butter
    2 c. sugar
    1 c. milk
    3 1/2 c. flour
    3 tsp. baking powder
    8 egg whites, stiffly beaten
    1 whole egg
Preparation
    Cream butter and sugar well.
    Sift flour and baking powder together.
    Add milk alternately with creamed mixture.
    Beat egg whites until stiff; fold in the mixture.
    Bake at 325\u00b0 for approximately 15 to 20 minutes.
    Makes 4 layers.
