Judy'S Jan Hagel - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. butter
    1/2 c. margarine
    1 c. sugar
    1 egg, separated
    pinch of salt
    2 c. sifted flour
    1/2 tsp. cinnamon
    1/2 tsp. vanilla
    1/2 to 3/4 c. chopped nuts
Preparation
    Preheat oven to 300\u00b0.
    Cream shortening.
    Add sugar, then egg yolk and cream well.
    Sift dry ingredients.
    Add gradually to creamed mixture.
    Add vanilla and pat dough evenly onto a greased 11 x 17-inch cookie sheet.
    Brush with egg white diluted with a little water and sprinkle with nuts.
    Bake 30 minutes. Cut into squares while still warm.
