Navy Bean Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. navy beans
    1 medium onion, chopped fine
    1 c. fine chopped celery
    1 c. carrots, chopped fine
    1 c. ketchup
    4 Tbsp. salt
    1 small can crushed tomatoes
    3 Tbsp. sugar
    black or white pepper to taste
    1 gal. water
Preparation
    Clean and wash
    beans;
    add
    to
    the
    gallon
    of water. Bring to a boil and
    cook
    for
    1 hour over a low fire.
    After beans have cooked 1 hour, add chopped onions, celery, carrots, ketchup, salt, pepper and sugar.
    Continue to boil under a low fire until beans are well done.
    Add the small can of tomatoes and with a wire whip stir well.
