Ingredients

2 c. milk or 1 c. cream
1 c. water
3/4 c. sugar
3 Tbsp. cornstarch
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. nutmeg
Preparation

Put milk into 2-quart saucepan. Bring to a boil.
Mix sugar and cornstarch.
Add egg until well blended.
Pour mixture into heated milk.
Stir continuously until boiling and thickened. Remove from fire and add vanilla and nutmeg. Stir. Serve hot or cold over pound cake or Jiffy yellow or white cake.
