Bread And Butter Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 c. thinly sliced cucumbers
    cracked ice
    coarse salt
    1 small head cauliflower, broken into flowerets (4 c.)
    8 onions, thinly sliced (4 c.)
    2 green peppers, cut in strips
    2 red peppers, cut in strips
    2 1/2 c. sugar
    2 1/2 c. white vinegar
    3/4 tsp. ground turmeric
    3/4 tsp. celery seed
    1/4 tsp. ground cloves
Preparation
    Arrange cucumbers in bowl; top with cracked ice and sprinkle with salt.
    Repeat layers with remaining vegetables.
    Let stand 4 hours.
