Mrs. Winslow'S Apple Pie Filling - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 1/2 c. sugar
    1 c. cornstarch
    1 1/4 tsp. apple pie spice
    3 Tbsp. lemon juice
    2 to 3 drops yellow food coloring
    5 to 6 lb. apples, sliced, peeled and cored
Preparation
    In large saucepan, blend in first four ingredients with 1 teaspoon
    salt.
    Stir this into 8 to 10 cups of water.
    Cook while stirring
    until
    thickened and bubbly.
    Add lemon juice and coloring.
    Pack
    apples
    in
    hot
    jars;
    leave
    1/2
    inch headspace.\tFill
    with syrup to within 1/2-inch space.
    Adjust lids.
    Process
    in\tboiling water for 15 minutes (pints) or 20 minutes (quarts).
    Yields approximately 7 quarts.
