Date Nut Roll - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3 c. sugar
    pinch of salt
    1 c. milk
    1 (8 oz.) pkg. dates (cut up)
    1 Tbsp. white Karo syrup
    1 tsp. butter or margarine
    1 c. cut pecans
Preparation
    Cook sugar, salt, syrup, margarine and milk until it comes to a boil.
    Add cut-up dates.
    Stir all time.
    Cook to soft ball stage. Remove from heat; cool.
    Beat until very stiff and add pecans. Shape 6 to 8 inches long, 1/2-inch in diameter.
    Place on wax paper.
    Cut in slices when firm.
