Soy Sauced Spiced Beef - cooking recipe
Ingredients

1 lb. boneless stew beef, cut in 1-inch cubes (chuck)
2 Tbsp. oil
2 Tbsp. dry sherry
3 Tbsp. soy sauce
1 tsp. sugar
2 scallions, cut in 2-inch pieces
4 whole star anise
3 slices peeled ginger
1 c. cold water
Preparation

Heat oil in saucepan over high heat.
Add beef, scallions and ginger.
Sear beef on all sides, being careful not to burn ginger and scallions.
Add sherry, soy sauce and sugar; mix well and cook 2 to 3 minutes.
Add water; bring to boil.
Reduce to medium heat. Cover and cook 20 to 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Add anise; reduce heat to low and cook 30 minutes more.
Serve hot or cold with rice.
