Danish Orange Cake - cooking recipe

1/2 c. shortening
2 eggs, beaten
1 c. raisins
1 c. sugar
1 orange
1 tsp. soda
3/4 c. buttermilk
2 c. flour
1 c. sugar (additional)
Preparation

Cream 1 cup of sugar and shortening.
Add beaten eggs; beat until smooth.
Squeeze juice from orange; save.
Grind rind and raisins in food chopper; add both alternately to the rest of the ingredients.
Pour mixture into a lightly greased and floured 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan.
Bake in a 350\u00b0 oven for 45 minutes.
As cake comes from the oven, pour mixture of 1 cup of sugar and orange juice over it.
Cake is best when allowed to sit overnight.
