Cream Pie - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 large pastry shell
    2/3 c. sugar
    3 1/2 Tbsp. cornstarch (may substitute 5 Tbsp. flour)
    1/2 tsp. salt
    2 1/2 c. milk
    3 egg yolks, slightly beaten
    1 tsp. vanilla
Preparation
    Combine sugar, cornstarch (or flour) and salt in top of double boiler.
    Stir in cold milk; cook over boiling water (stirring constantly) until thickened.
    Cover and cook 15 minutes longer. Stir a little of hot mixture into slightly beaten egg yolks.
    Add remaining mixture into double boiler and cook for 2 minutes over hot (not boiling) water.
    Stir constantly.
    Cool and add vanilla. Pour into baked shell.
    If desired, cover with meringue and bake at 325\u00b0 for about 15 minutes or until lightly browned or just before serving top with whipped cream.
