Bread And Butter Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    24 c. round sliced cucumbers
    1 c. pickling salt
    3 or 4 big onions (the red ones are fine)
    ice
    5 c. sugar
    1 1/4 qt. white vinegar
    1/2 c. mustard seed
    1 Tbsp. celery seed
    1 Tbsp. turmeric
Preparation
    Put cucumbers and sliced onions in a large pan.
    Pour salt over them.
    Cover with ice.
    Let set 3 hours.
    Heat spices, sugar and vinegar.
    Drain cucumbers and onions.
    Add to spice mix. Bring to boil.
    Put in jars to seal.
    Makes 6 to 7 quarts.
