Quick Cherry Cobbler - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/3 c. butter or margarine
    3/4 c. sugar
    1 c. flour
    2 tsp. baking powder
    1/4 tsp. salt
    3/4 c. milk
    1/2 tsp. almond extract
    1 (1 lb.) can red sour pitted cherries
    1/4 c. sugar
Preparation
    Preheat oven to 325\u00b0.
    Melt butter or margarine in 9 x 9-inch cake pan.
    In mixing bowl, combine 3/4 cup sugar, flour, baking powder, salt and milk; pour over melted shortening but do not stir.
    Add almond extract to cherries and pour cherries and juice over flour mixture.
    Do not stir.
    Sprinkle 1/4 cup sugar over cherries.
    Bake until done, about 45 minutes.
