Grandma Glazier'S Bread And Butter Pickles - cooking recipe

4 qt. thinly sliced young cucumbers
6 medium onions, sliced
4 sweet red peppers, finely ground
1/2 c. salt
4 c. sugar, heaping
3 3/4 c. vinegar
1 tsp. dry mustard
2 tsp. turmeric
4 tsp. mustard seed
Preparation

Combine cucumbers, peppers, onion and salt; let stand overnight.
Cover with weighted lid to keep vegetables under brine. Next morning drain well.
Make syrup of sugar, vinegar, mustard, turmeric and mustard seed.
Bring to boil, add vegetables, bring to a boil again, simmer a few minutes.
Pack into hot jars (sterile) and process 15 minutes in hot water bath.
Make about 7 pints.
