6 oz. semi-sweet chocolate pieces
2 Tbsp. instant coffee
4 Tbsp. water
2/3 c. sugar
1 1/3 sticks butter
3 eggs (separated)
1/4 tsp. cream of tartar
pinch of salt
1/3 c. pulverized blanched almonds
1/4 tsp. almond extract
3/4 c. plain flour
whole or sliced almonds (for garnish, optional)
Preparation

Preheat oven to 350\u00b0.
Grease and lightly flour single round cake pan.
Melt 4 ounces semi-sweet chocolate pieces and 1 tablespoon instant coffee that has been mixed with 2 tablespoons of water.
