Lucy Ann'S Bread And Butter Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 qt. sliced cucumbers (4 mm slice)
    6 medium white onions (about 1 1/4 lb.; 2 mm slice)
    3 cloves garlic
    1/2 c. salt
    cracked ice
    5 c. sugar
    1 1/2 tsp. celery seed
    3 c. cider vinegar
    2 tsp. ground ginger
    1 1/2 tsp. turmeric
    1/2 tsp. alum
    2 Tbsp. mustard seed
Preparation
    Put cucumbers, onions and garlic in a bowl.
    Sprinkle salt over all. Cover with cracked ice.
    Mix by hand.
    Let stand at least 3 hours.
    Drain thoroughly.
    Heat the remaining ingredients. Put in pot. Add drained vegetables (minced garlic). Heat to boiling.
    Put in jars and seal.
    Makes 6 or 7 pints.
