Caramels - cooking recipe
Ingredients

2 c. sugar
2 c. white Karo syrup
few grains salt
1/2 c. butter
2 c. whipping cream (do not whip)
1 tsp. vanilla
Preparation

Mix sugar, syrup and salt together to 245\u00b0 (candy thermometer) or until mixture is very thick.
Add butter until melts.
Add milk gradually to mixture, keeping mixture boiling at all times.
Stir constantly.
Cook rapidly to 242\u00b0 or until a few drops form a firm ball when dropped in cold water.
The mixture will be very thick and sticks easily.
Remove from heat.
Add vanilla and pour into greased 9-inch square pan.
Cool thoroughly before cutting.
Wrap each piece in waxed paper.
Makes 7 dozen pieces.
