Annie Rice Pudding - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. long grain rice
    1 c. water
    2 qt. milk
    1 stick butter
    1 1/4 c. sugar
    1 c. raisins (optional)
    1 Tbsp. vanilla
Preparation
    Cook rice in water until all water is absorbed.
    Add remaining ingredients except raisins.
    Cook slowly in heavy pot 1 1/2 to 2 hours, stirring often.
    Cook until thick, then add raisins the last 15 minutes.
    Remove from heat.
    Stir in vanilla.
    Cool.
    Top with cinnamon and/or nutmeg if desired.
