Ingredients

1 c. water
1 c. vinegar
1/4 c. sugar
3 (2-inch) sticks cinnamon, broken
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. whole cloves
1 small onion, thinly sliced into rings
1 small red onion, thinly sliced and separated into rings
Preparation

Combine first 6 ingredients in a small saucepan.
Bring to a boil.
Cover and reduce heat and simmer 10 minutes.
Remove from heat; strain mixture and discard spices.
Pour strained hot mixture over onions.
Cover and chill overnight.
Drain before serving.
