Homemade Shortcake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. flour
    1/3 c. shortening
    1 tsp. salt
    1 c. milk
    1 1/2 c. sugar
    2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
    2 eggs
Preparation
    Cream together shortening, sugar, eggs and vanilla.
    Sift together flour, salt and baking powder.
    Add dry ingredients with milk to creamed mixture, beginning and ending with flour mixture.
    Pour into an 8 x 8-inch greased and floured pan.
    Bake at 325\u00b0 for 30 to 40 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
    Cool in pan, covered loosely with foil.
    Cut wedge into bowl and top with fresh, sweetened strawberries or peaches and whipped topping.
