Poppy Seed Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. milk
    1/2 c. poppy seed
    1/2 c. shortening
    1 1/2 c. sugar
    1 tsp. vanilla
    2 c. flour
    2 tsp. baking powder
    4 egg whites, reserve yolks
Preparation
    Scald milk and pour over poppy seed.
    Let stand for 2 hours or overnight in refrigerator.
    Cream shortening and sugar until light and fluffy, add vanilla.
    Sift flour and baking powder.
    Add flour mixture and poppy seed mixture alternately to cream mixture.
    Beat egg whites until stiff and fold in batter.
    Pour batter into three greased and floured 9-inch cake pans.
    Bake at 350\u00b0 approximately 30 minutes or until lightly browned.
    Cool on wire rack.
    Spread layers and frost cake with filling.
