Lane Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1-1/2 c. butter or margarine
    4 c. sugar
    3-1/2 c. sifted flour
    3 tsp. baking powder
    1 c. milk
    2 tsp. vanilla
    8 eggs, separated
    1 c raisins
    1 c. chopped nuts
    1 c. coconut
    1 c. wine or bourbon
Preparation
    Cream 1 cup butter and 2 cups sugar together until fluffy and light.
    Sift flour with baking powder.
    Add flour mixture to cream mixture alternately with milk.
    Add 1 teaspoon vanilla.
    Fold in fluffy beaten egg whites.
    Spoon batter into 3 9-inch greased and floured cake pans.
    Bake at 350\u00b0 for 20-30 minutes.
    Beat egg yolks slightly.
    Add remaining sugar and butter.
    Cook in double boiler until thick, stirring constantly.
    Add raisins, nuts, and coconut.
    Stir in remaining vanilla and wine.
    spread filling thickly between layers of cake and on top and sides.
