Sweet Dough - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. lukewarm milk
    2 tsp. salt
    1/2 c. shortening
    7 to 7 1/2 c. sifted flour
    1/2 c. sugar
    2 cakes compressed yeast *
Preparation
    Mix together the milk, sugar and salt, crumble into mixture the cakes of yeast.
    Stir until dissolved.
    Stir in eggs and shortening.
    Mix in first with spoon, then with hand 7 cups flour. Add flour in 2 additions, using amount necessary to make it easy to handle.
    When the dough begins to leave the sides of the bowl, turn it onto floured board and knead.
    Fold dough over toward you, press down away from you with heel of hand.
    Repeat until it's smooth and doesn't stick to board.
    Place in greased bowl.
    Cover with damp cloth and let rise 1 1/2 to 2 hours.
    Punch down, pull edges into center and let rise again until double in bulk, 30 to 45 minutes.
