Devil'S Food Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. shortening
    1 3/4 c. sugar
    2 eggs
    1/2 c. cocoa
    2 1/4 c. flour
    1/4 tsp. salt
    1 1/4 tsp. soda
    1/2 c. sour or buttermilk
    1 c. boiling water
    1 tsp. vanilla
Preparation
    Cream shortening and add sugar gradually.
    Beat until fluffy. Add eggs and continue to beat.
    Add vanilla.
    Sift flour, cocoa and salt.
    Add alternately with milk.
    Add soda to boiling water. Stir into rest of ingredients.
    This makes a thin batter.
    Pour into two 8-inch pans which have been greased.
    Bake 25 to 30 minutes at 350\u00b0.
