Cherry Kuchen - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3/4 c. milk
    3/4 c. plus 1/16 c. farina breakfast cereal
    3/4 c. sugar
    1/2 c. butter
    1/2 c. ground almonds or hazelnuts
    6 eggs, separated
    cinnamon to taste
    1/2 lemon rind, grated
    2 lb. cherries (canned or pits removed)
Preparation
    Combine milk, sugar and farina, stirring frequently.
    Heat until thickened just to boiling point; don't boil.
    Let mixture cool.
    Beat egg whites until stiff.
    Beat egg yolks into cooled milk-farina-sugar mixture.
    Add cherries, almonds or hazelnuts, butter and cinnamon to mixture.
    Add egg whites to mixture.
    Put in buttered 9 x 13-inch pan.
    Bake at 375\u00b0 for 1 hour.
    Serve with cream or whipped cream.
