Buttermilk Pound Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. shortening
    3 c. sugar
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1 c. buttermilk
    3 c. plain flour, sifted
    1/2 tsp. soda in 1/4 c. warm water
    2 tsp. vanilla
    5 separated eggs
Preparation
    Cream shortening, sugar and salt. Stir in egg yolks 1 at a time. Alternate with buttermilk, flour and soda in water. Beat until smooth. Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites. Pour into greased and floured tube pan. Bake 1 hour and 10 minutes at 350\u00b0. Cool 10 minutes. Run knife to loosen. Turn out. Wonderful for strawberry shortcake.
