Ingredients

2 1/2 c. sugar
6 egg yolks, well beaten
1 c. butter or margarine
1 tsp. soda, dissolved in buttermilk
1 c. buttermilk
1 c. blackberry jam
1 c. golden raisins
1 c. strawberry preserves
1 c. pear or peach preserves
1 c. nuts, finely chopped
1 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. allspice
3 1/2 c. plain sifted flour
6 egg whites, stiffly beaten
Preparation

Sift flour and spices together; set aside.
Cream butter and sugar until fluffy.
Add egg yolks and beat thoroughly. Alternately add buttermilk/soda mixture and dry ingredients.
Mix jams, raisins, preserves and nuts together and add to batter. Fold in the beaten egg whites.
