Bread And Butter Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 qts. sliced medium cucumbers
    2 green peppers chopped
    1/3 c. salt
    1 1/2 tsp. tumeric
    2 Tbsp. mustard seed
    6 med. white onions sliced (can use 4 small)
    3 cloves garlic (can omit)
    5 c. sugar
    1 1/2 tsp. celery seed
    3 c. cider vinegar
Preparation
    Wash cucumbers and then slice.
    Add onions, peppers and whole garlic cloves.
    Add salt, cover with cracked ice and water.
    Let stand at least 3 hours.
    Drain and rinse thoroughly.
    Combine remaining ingredients, pour over cucumber mixture.
    Heat just to a boil.
    Seal in hot sterilized jars.
    Makes 8 pints.
