Jam Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. white sugar
    3 1/2 c. plain flour
    2 c. jam
    1 c. buttermilk
    1 tsp. each: soda, cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon and allspice
    3/4 c. butter
    1 c. nuts
    1 c. water
    3 eggs
Preparation
    Cream butter and sugar, adding a little buttermilk.
    Add this to the soda which has been dissolved in a little hot water.
    Put into this enough water to make smooth.
    Add beaten eggs and remainder of flour and jam.
    Beat all well, adding last the nuts and spices.
    Bake in layers at 350\u00b0 for 30 minutes.
    Use a caramel icing.
