Gingerbread - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 1/2 c. flour
    1/2 tsp. ginger
    1/2 tsp. cloves
    1/2 tsp. cinnamon
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/2 c. sugar
    1 unbeaten egg
    1/2 c. sorghum molasses
    1/2 c. buttermilk
    1 tsp. soda
    1/2 c. shortening
Preparation
    Cream the shortening and sugar.
    Add egg and molasses and mix well.
    Blend soda with milk.
    Sift dry ingredients together and add alternately with milk.
    Bake in a moderate oven (340\u00b0) for about 40 minutes.
    Cut into squares while slightly warm.
