Old-Fashioned Pennsylvania Dutch Strawberry Shortcake - cooking recipe
Ingredients

2 c. all-purpose flour
2 Tbsp. sugar
1 Tbsp. baking powder
1/2 c. butter or margarine
1 egg, beaten
2/3 c. light cream or buttermilk
3 to 4 c. fresh strawberries, cleaned, sliced, sweetened to taste and chilled
1 tsp. ground ginger
whipped topping or whipped cream
Preparation

In a mixing bowl, stir flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Cut in butter until you have coarse crumbs.
Combine beaten egg and light cream or buttermilk.
Add all at once to the crumb mixture and stir until just moist.
Spread dough in a greased 8 x 1 1/2-inch round baking dish and press a bit to build up the edges.
Bake at 450\u00b0 for 15 minutes or until done.
Remove from pan and cool slightly.
Slice shortcake to form 2 layers. Carefully lift top half.
Place the bottom half on an attractive serving dish.
Lightly butter the bottom layer.
Spoon about half of the berry mixture onto the shortcake.
