Ingredients

15 medium tomatoes (5 lb.), peeled and quartered
1 c. brown sugar
1 (6 oz.) can tomato paste
1 tsp. salt
6 slices white bread, cut into 1-inch cubes
1 c. butter or margarine, melted
Preparation

Begin 1 1/2 hours before serving time.
Heat tomatoes to boiling in a 3-quart saucepan, stirring constantly.
Reduce to low heat, cover and simmer until tomatoes are soft, about 10 minutes. Uncover and cook 15 minutes longer, stirring (until slightly thickened).
