Layered Lettuce Salad - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 head lettuce, broken into small pieces
    1 c. celery, diced
    4 hard-cooked eggs, sliced
    1 (10 oz.) pkg. frozen green peas, thawed and uncooked
    1/2 c. green pepper, diced
    1 medium onion, diced
    8 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled
    2 c. mayonnaise
    1 to 2 Tbsp. sugar
    4 oz. Cheddar cheese, grated
Preparation
    Layer first 7 ingredients in order given in a 12 x 9-inch glass dish.
    Combine mayonnaise and sugar; spread evenly over top of salad.
    Sprinkle with cheese.
    Cover and refrigerate 8 to 12 hours.
    Yield: 12 servings.
