Date Bread - cooking recipe
Ingredients

1 c. sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. baking powder
2 1/4 c. flour
1 pkg. dates (about 1 1/2 c.)
1 Tbsp. shortening
1 1/2 c. boiling water
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. salt
1 c. nuts
Preparation

Put shortening in hot water.
Add the soda and pour over chopped dates.
Mix and let stand while mixing dry ingredients. Mix all dry ingredients and add to the liquids, mixing well.
Add the nuts last.
Fill a well-greased loaf pan and bake at 350\u00b0 for about one hour and 10 minutes (or until well done).
