Ingredients

4 c. fresh ground coconut
3 c. sugar
2 Tbsp. butter or oleo
1 c. evaporated milk
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
Preparation

Place all ingredients except vanilla in saucepan.
Cook over low heat, mixing well, until a boiling point is reached and sugar is melted.
Keep mixing to prevent burning.
Reduce heat when thick; continue cooking until thick and leaves sides of pan to form lump.
Add vanilla; mix well.
Turn into buttered 10-inch plate without pressing down.
Cut while still warm, but do not separate.
