Fried Green Tomatoes - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    green tomatoes, sliced 1/4-inch thick
    1 tsp. salt
    egg, beaten
    1 c. cornmeal
    1 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. pepper
    1/2 c. vegetable oil
Preparation
    Place tomatoes in bowl with 1 teaspoon salt and cover with boiling water.
    Allow to set until almost cool.
    Remove slices and drain on paper towels.
    Dip in egg and then into mixture of cornmeal, 1 teaspoon salt and pepper.
    Heat oil in skillet and fry tomatoes until brown on both sides.
    Drain on paper towels.
