Holiday Punch - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3/4 c. sugar
    2 c. water
    2 c. whiskey
    1 1/4 c. Port wine
    3/4 sweet vermouth
    juice from small jar cherries
Preparation
    Heat and make into a simple syrup the sugar and water. Mix ingredients and add to the cooled syrup mixture.
    Keep refrigerated.
