Green Tomato Sweet Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3 lb. tomatoes
    cold water
    alum
    1 qt. vinegar
    1 lb. sugar
    cloves
    cinnamon
    nutmeg
Preparation
    Slice tomatoes thin.
    Sprinkle with salt.
    Let remain 24 hours.
    Rinse in cold water, then soak in alum water 2 to 3 hours (use alum the size of a partridge egg).
    Rinse again.
    Now weigh them and put in kettle of cold ginger water.
    Let come to a boil. Add vinegar, sugar, cloves, cinnamon and nutmeg.
    Boil only a few minutes.
    Boil down syrup.
