Winter Vegetable Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    5 Tbsp. butter, divided
    2 c. onion, chopped
    2 Tbsp. flour
    6 c. chicken broth
    2 bay leaves
    salt and white pepper to taste
    2 c. potatoes, diced
    1 c. celery, diced
    4 carrots, cut in julienne strips
    6 large mushrooms, sliced thin
    1 c. heavy cream
Preparation
    Saute onion in 4 tablespoons of butter until soft, but not brown.
    Add flour and stir over moderate heat for 2 minutes. Gradually add chicken broth, whisking until smooth.
    Add potatoes and seasoning and simmer, uncovered, until potatoes are almost tender.
