Ingredients

1/2 lb. butter
2 c. sugar
4 egg yolks, well beaten
3 c. flour
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1 c. buttermilk, mixed with 1 tsp. baking soda
4 egg whites, beaten stiff
Preparation

Cream butter and sugar together.
Add remaining ingredients. Fold in egg whites.
Bake at 350\u00b0 for 30 to 35 minutes (two 9-inch pans).
