David Warren'S Candied Yams - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    6 medium or 4 large yams
    1/2 tsp. nutmeg
    1 tsp. cinnamon
    1/2 c. (1 stick) butter
    1/2 c. water
    3/4 c. sugar
    1/4 tsp. salt
Preparation
    Boil the potatoes
    in water to cover until tender. Drain and cool slightly.
    Peel and cut in quarters.
    Place in long, shallow baking dish. Sprinkle with nutmeg and cinnamon. Cut butter in thin slivers and distribute over surface.
    Pour in water, then sprinkle sugar and salt over all. Bake in a preheated 375\u00b0 oven for 30 to 40 minutes.
