Ingredients

1/2 c. butter
1 1/2 tsp. salt
8 c. beef broth
8 (1/2-inch) toasted slices of French bread
8 slices Swiss cheese
8 c. thinly sliced onions
3 Tbsp. flour
pepper to taste
Preparation

Melt butter in a large, heavy kettle over medium heat.
Add the onions and salt and cook over low heat, stirring frequently, about 20 minutes or until onions are golden brown.
Sprinkle the flour over the onions and stir until well blended.
Remove from heat.
