Bread And Butter Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 medium cucumbers (unpared)
    1 green pepper
    1/4 c. pickling salt
    2 1/2 c. sugar
    1 Tbsp. mustard seed
    3/4 tsp. ground turmeric
    3 medium onions
    1 clove garlic
    crushed ice
    1 1/2 c. cider vinegar
    3/4 tsp. celery seed
    1/8 tsp. ground cloves
Preparation
    Slice cucumbers, onions and peppers.
    Combine vegetables with garlic and salt; cover with crushed ice.
    Mix thoroughly.
    Allow to stand at room temperature 3 hours; rinse and drain well. Discard garlic.
    Heat remaining ingredients in large saucepan to boiling.
    Add vegetables; heat to boiling.
    Remove; fill hot sterilized pint jars with hot vegetables and liquid, leaving 1/2-inch headspace.
    Seal and process in boiling water bath for 15 minutes.
    Makes about 4 pints.
