Mexican Peas - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 (16 oz.) pkg. dried peas
    1 (28 oz.) whole tomatoes, undrained
    2 Tbsp. sugar
    2 tsp. garlic salt
    2 1/2 Tbsp. chopped celery
    2 lb. sausage
    1 medium onion
    1/2 c. water
    2 1/2 Tbsp. chili powder
    1/4 tsp. pepper
Preparation
    Wash peas.
    Soak in water 2-inches above peas overnight. Brown sausage to crumble.
    Add onion and cook until tender.
    Then drain.
    Drain peas and stir in sausage and other ingredients. Bring to a boil.
    Cover and simmer 1 1/2 hours.
    Add water if needed.
