Cracker Jacks - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 lard cans popped popcorn (two 5 gal. cans)
    8 lb. sugar
    2 lb. butter
    1 gal. white Karo or King syrup
    1 tsp. cream of tartar
Preparation
    Mix all ingredients, except cream of tartar; boil together until it reaches hard crack on thermometer, about 310\u00b0.
    Stir in cream of tartar and pour over popcorn.
    Mix well, then put on greased table top and press down to make it flat.
    As soon as cooled, put in tight containers to keep it from becoming sticky.
