Ingredients

2 c. milk, scalded
1 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. flour or cornstarch
3 Tbsp. cocoa
1/2 tsp. salt
3 egg yolks, slightly beaten
2 Tbsp. butter
1 tsp. vanilla
1 Tbsp. water
3 egg whites
2 Tbsp. sugar
1 baked pie crust
Preparation

Combine sugar and flour.
Add to milk, stirring constantly. Add cocoa.
Cook over hot water, stirring constantly until mixture thickens.
Cover.
Cook 5 minutes.
Combine egg yolks, salt and water.
Add to cooked mixture, slowly stirring.
Add butter; cook 1 minute.
Cool.
Add vanilla.
Pour into baked pastry shell. Cover with meringue and brown.
