Hermit Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. butter or margarine
    5 1/2 c. cake flour (reserve 1/2 c.)
    3 tsp. baking powder
    2 tsp. cinnamon
    6 eggs, separated
    1 1/4 lb. brown sugar
    1 lemon (juice only)
    1 1/2 lb. chopped dates
    1/2 to 1 lb. chopped walnut meats
Preparation
    Cream together butter, 5 cups flour, baking powder and cinnamon.
    Beat egg yolks until frothy, then add brown sugar and mix well.
    Add this mixture to the butter and flour and mix well. Beat egg whites until stiff, then fold into mixture.
    Stir in juice of 1 lemon.
    Dredge dates and nuts in the 1/2 cup reserved flour. Stir into mixture.
    It will be stiff.
