June Birthday Cake - cooking recipe
Ingredients

3/4 c. shortening
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. sugar
1 c. water
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. almond extract
3 c. flour, sifted with 3 tsp. baking powder
1 c. egg whites
1 c. sugar
Preparation

Cream shortening, salt and sugar.
Add water and flour alternately to creamed mixture.
Add flavorings and mix well. Beat egg whites stiff and add 1 cup sugar to blend well.
Fold egg whites in last until well blended.
Do not beat as it destroys lightness of egg whites.
Bake for 15 to 20 minutes.
Have oven fairly hot the first 5 minutes, then reduce heat and bake remaining 15 minutes.
