Cinnamon Pears - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    10 large pears, peeled and sliced
    2 c. water
    3 c. vinegar
    2 pkg. red hots
    1 c. powdered lime
    1 gal. water
    1 Tbsp. alum
    5 c. sugar
    8 sticks cinnamon
Preparation
    Peel pears and slice in half rounds or spears.
    Soak overnight in 1 gallon water and lime.
    Next morning, drain, rinse and soak in clear water for 4 hours.
